Ya it is a pit pricy... but the good stuff usually is, and you will be so glad you invested in this great ink.
Illuminate Yourself!

For You

A card for a dear friend who lost her dad. A new and an old stamping set. I used a free envelope that I got from our RX shop that sometimes gives or sales the envelops from the cards that they rotate out. Folded and cut the card stock to fit that envelope size. Stamped with crumb cake, celery and wisteria ink. Added glitter of course!

Skillet Pie

Holy cow was this every fantastic! I got the idea from an amazing cook Sharon Mancuso. She held a Stampin Up Workshop for me a few weeks ago and had served an apple pie in a skillet! Wow - wee-ca-soww-wee! (sounds like a superman show)

Well you know me, I had to try it with or without the recipe. So I took ready made pie crust (yes, yes, it was not homemade, sorry) Put the first crust in the bottom of the pan, and then poured in the apples coated with all the yummy stuff, cut pats of real butter and topped that over the apple stuff. Then topped it with the second crust. Cut off the excess crust, egg washed it and topped with more cinnamon and sugar. Baked it about 35 min (will add a bit more time next time) Served it at mom's 80th birthday party, and it was all gone in a flash! Man oh man was it yummy.

If ya really need an apple pie recipe, get from your momma or do a search on the net - any one with lots of cinnamon, cloves and sugar will do. Need a cast iron skillet, well ask grandma for that if you don't have on. I had to borrow mom's too! Sharon baked hers in a 14" pan, mom's was only a 12", both worked great, both were delish!
Happy Tummy!

Paper Christmas Ornament

I was asked to teach the ornament that is pictured on the front of the Mini Catalog (see right column). I didn't want to invest in the kit that was offered to make it, and though that there was a way to use what I had to teach this class. The kit is amazing, but I needed to spend supply money on other supplies and not that kit for one class. So after playing around with a few tools, this is what I came up with. Ya - I love it too!

Please note that hot glue works best for this project unless you are into setting an holding your project till liquid glue dries. Glue stick and snail will not hold the projects together. I made one and found it the next morning all popped apart! That did not make for a fun morning!
I punched out three ornament punch shapes for each petal. One from cherry cobbler card stock, one from wild wasabi card stack and one from the designer series paper. You will need four times each one, to make four petals. If you want a larger ornament, punch out five or six of each.
Fold each punch down the center, and put the paper choice you want showing to the inside of fold.
Thne glue one side of the solid card stock folded ornament to one side of the designer series paper fold and repeat with another solid card stock on the other side of the designer paper. Do this to all the punched ornament papers till you have four petals. As show above.
Punch a larger circle out of coordinating card stock glue each petal to the center of the circle as show in the picture above. The below shot is back side of the ornament. You can adjust how you glue the petals to the circle, buy how large you want the finished ornament, or how compact you want it. You can even shape more like a cross, and spread it out more and/or add more petals.

Sorry but I do not have a picture of the next step. Cut a couple of inches of the new scalloped tulle and gather it up and glue it in between each ornament petal. Like a little tuff to fill in that area a bit. See finished picture of tuffs below.
At this point I added a length of twine looped to one of the petal seams back side for hanging. Hot glue in place. Not pictured, but you get the idea.
This is a rosette that was made with a strip of  1 1/2"x 12" designer series paper and the rosette big shot die. Cut and score the paper using the die. Fold it back and forth like a fan and glue the ends together. Add a dollop of hot glue to a punched circle and flatten out the rosette into the glue, hold carefully till glue cools. I lightly flattened the petals of the ornament, added a lot of hot glue to the back side of the rosette punched circle and lightly pressed the rosette on to the petals centering it as best as you can. Hold till cool. You will have the rosette glued to the center of the petals.
I punched out glimmer silver paper using the new snowflake big shop die and glued that to the center top of the rosette. then adding a jumbo pearl to the center of our new faceted buttons and glued that to the center of the glimmer snowflake finished out the project just perfectly. Well almost, it needed more bling... so I added a line of silver dazzeling details around the edges of the inside desiger series paper petal. Let dry a few hours and then it was ready to package and give, or hang on the tree.

Everyone just loved their ornament - and I was very happy! The sisters that were in attendance ordered everything needed to make more with there other family members so they could decorate a whole tree using this idea for their mom and dad this year. What a beautiful gift.

Speaking of gift... a few special hostess' will be receiving this at club this month as a thank you! If you have any questions, leave a comment and I will get back to ya on this post. New Trimmer Available

The New Stampin' Trimmer

Introducing the new and improved Stampin' Trimmer! Although paper trimmers are a common crafting tool, this trimmer was designed exclusively by paper crafters for paper crafters-and because it was made by Stampin' Up!, you know it's a cut above the rest!
Features of the All-New Stampin' Trimmer
  • An extra-wide 6-1/4" cutting base and an extended 14-1/2" ruler
    • The extra-wide cutting base provides a large work area and is marked in 1/4" (4 mm) increments, allowing for small measurements.
    • The right-side grid helps you measure and cut very thin strips.
    • The extended cutting arm has a stabilizing leg to provide a sturdy and steady cutting surface for longer cuts.
    • When fully extended, the extended cutting arm sits flush with the trimmer base, providing more accurate and consistent measurements across the entire surface.
    • The cutting base and track include a full ruler, incorporating measurements down to 1/16" and grid lines that mark each quarter inch.
    • All rulers and measurements on the base are printed under a plastic cover so your measurements won't wear off.
    • The base has nonskid feet, which keeps the Stampin' Trimmer securely in place on your work area.
  • A full 12" cutting and scoring track
    • The extra-long cutting track has space at the top and bottom so you don't have to take the cutting and scoring blades out when you're not using them.
    • The track gives you enough space to cut or score a full 12" (30.5 cm) without having to remove or switch out handles.
    • The cutting track locks in place for secure storage or transport.
    • The track includes an insertion point for cutting and scoring blade handles so you can easily insert handles into the cutting track.
  • Specially designed handles and cutting track to ensure straight cuts
    • The hook on the scoring and cutting blade handles keeps the handles stable so the cuts are as straight as possible.
    • Handles come in two colors: dark for cutting, light for scoring.
    • The precision tip on the cutting blade allows you to pinpoint precisely where you're cutting.
    • The point on the side of each handle shows you where the blade will cut, making it easy to see exactly where your cuts and scores will begin.
  • Storage compartment under base
    • The storage compartment holds scoring and cutting tools such as a Bone Folder, Simply Scored Stylus, extra scoring and cutting blades, and even business cards.
    • Separate compartments within the storage compartment keep your tools organized, and the clear cover makes it easy to see what you've stored.
  • Product details: item 126889; $29.95 (click on details to order)

Wedding Stationary

My daughter, our baby (till we adopted another, so now she is our middle daughter) is getting married. I don't know if I should celebrate or cry. I not sure I am ready to give her away yet.... but are we ever ready to give our children away? Well.... I guess it would depend on the child! I bet my parents would have given me away at an early age if for nothing, but all the fighting I did with my younger sister. My wonderful mother in law said, "you are not giving her away, you are gaining another".  Ok... enough wise mother in law wisdom for one blog post.

On to the card idea. Well here is the first attempt at wedding announcements. He didn't like the green, she didn't like all the brown or the strip at the bottom edge. So we are moving on and coming up with more ideas. More to come as we prepare and make and sweat and stress and... well all that fun stuff that goes into putting a perfect wedding day together. If you don't hear from me for long periods of time... that is because I found a rock to crawl under and hide till it is over! heehee
Happy Planning (I think)!

Embossed elegance

Now this is a show stopper. I masked the upper and lower part of the card base with post-it-notes, and burnished crumb cake ink in the open area. Leave some lighter areas, and add more ink to get some darker areas. I removed the post-it-notes and stamped the verse and leaf in versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder. Oh my this is a beauty! Great idea for any occasion, just change out the greeting. This design would work well for business cards and even wedding stationary... speaking of wedding.. stay tuned!
Fall into Stampin Today!

Cherry Cobbler Fall

The Cherry Cobbler ink and scalloped tulle ribbon sets this fall card off. Using the (my fav) French Foliage stamp set, the wood grain embossing folder. Stamping first then gluing the vanilla over espresso card base, then running it through the Big Shot in the wood grain folder - make it look like the leaves and card stock has been embedded into the card base. Love this card. The scalloped tulle is bunched up in the center lengthwise and glued. I cut the cotton ribbon found in the same "not so mini" mini catalog in half and frayed the cut edges giving it a worn look.  There is lots that you can do to add more to this card. But simple 30 second card is about my speed these days. And still - a wow card! Well I think so and wanted to share.
Happy Fall Stamping!

Balls of Trash!

While making my daughters table runners for the wedding... a thought came to me. "Hey wait, don't throw this away!" I had some styrofoam balls on hand and thought, what would it look like if I wrapped the strings from the burlap edges that I was tossing away look like?
Well check this out! Pretty cool huh. Well I thought so, and it will go with the wedding decor as well. So here we go again RR&R. Reduce Reuse and Recycle! From trash to treasure. burlap wrapped balls. All it took was the strings wrapped around the ball and then looped under another string wrap to secure. I am sure I could have hot glued it, but that would have taken effort to get out the gun and plug it in and ... well you know the routine. This really just took me seconds to make.
I ended up with a small, medium and large burlap wrapped ball, just perfect for added decor at the wedding. And it was free, well almost. I did have to buy the burlap for the table runners, but I used what was going to end up in the trash, and I had to buy the balls - but you could use anything round trash thingy of some sort if ya don't have any extras.
Happy Trash Wrapping!

Fall Core'dinations

I love this new Core'dinations Card Stock. It is so amazing in the wood grain embossing folder, then sanded - oh love it! Check out the new paper in the "not so mini" mini catalog on page 6. It comes in Cherry Cobbler and Gumball Green too.  I love the simplicity of this card - but it still has a nice wow to it too!
Grateful for You!

Wrappings and Bow

A dear young lady is getting married this month and she is using daisys for flowers, so I though how fitting to stamp the wedding gift to match the theme. I have a roll of newspaper before it is printed on and just cut off a piece of it, stamped it, and wrapped the gift. Well having ink and card stock in matching colors (Stampin Up is so great) I matched the bow to the paper. Stamped a few extra flowers, cut them out and made a note card to match and  a bit of a decoration for the bow center. Super cute huh?!?  Can you see this for your Christmas wrappings? You can pick up rolls of new newsprint paper at your local newspaper offices. I can get them in our town for a buck a roll, and there is usually lots left on the roll. You know the "3 R's" I refer to sometimes... reduce, reuse, and recycle... well here is another one of those "3 R" goodies!
Happy Stamp Wrappings!

Fall Cards

I was inspired by a card I saw on line that used scrap stirps as the background, then I added the layer of vellum. Stamp a few leaves, cut them out and pop on a bow. Exchange out the bow for a button and makes a great guys card too!
Happy Fall Ya All!

Christmas Card with Scraps

Reuse Reduce Recycle is so much a part of our living these days... how about using that concept in card making too. I did use new designer series papers for this design, but you so could use up old scraps of fabric, old Christmas cards, scrap paper, lace, ribbons pictures to make a super easy card like this one shown. The holiday is right around the corner - no better time then now to get started creating your Christmas cards. Oh and don't forget, you can order your supplies from my web site any time of the day or night at www.debbiebuchanan.stampinup.net.

The Stamp Pad gets a new View!

It is so fantastic to open the door leading into The Stamp Pad and see the sun shining into the room. What a difference it has made to the room. As much as this is my happy room before the window, it is even more of a happy place with the sun shinning in. Come for a visit sometime!
Happy room with a View!
