Special Olympics Scarf Project

For the past two or three years I have been participating in the Special Olympics Scarf Project. This year I have gotten an early start on it. Ya!

The project is really easy to participate in if you know how to knit or crochet.

I have 4 scarves done so far and have a few more to go. Last year I sent 5 or 6 along with my sweet friend Nikkie. If you are interested in this project here is the web site to learn more about Indiana's Special Olympics Chapter http://soindiana.org/donate/2013-scarf-project/.

But here is the quick info for the scarfs.

In 2016, we hope to receive 400 scarves to give to athletes, volunteers and supporters at the State Winter Games and Polar Plunges.

In order for the scarves to get to Winter Games, the deadline is Monday, January 4 2016.

The official Indiana colors for 2016 are:
Red Heart- 319 Cherry Red
Red Heart- 311 White

We recommend scarves be a 6-inch width and 54-60 inches including fringe in length.

We have no pattern requirements. Each scarf is handcrafted with love, and we welcome each pattern be chosen in the same fashion.

Please mail scarves to:

Painted Blooms

This beautiful card was sent to my from my friend and fellow Stampin Up demonstrator Dawn Griffith. It is such a cute card. She used my favorite paper from the new Occasions catalog. I k now where you can get it!

Dawn used the striped side of the designer paper to give the card a more masculine look. But she loves her bling and added some of that too! Ha.

Quilting

Yep it is winter and what better way to spend long freezing cold icky days then under a warm quilt? This little quilt I made is for my oldest granddaughter Sadie. I fell in love with the fabric, the colors' and the prints.

I think I love making kid and baby size quilts more then bed size. At least I didn't pull my neck and shoulder out on this one!

I used the Villa Rose Designs pattern "Gypsy" for this quilt. Let me tell you how much I love Villa Rose Designs.... I so love them! They are easy to follow instructions, inexpensive, beautiful and fun. This is the second quilt I have made with this pattern, and I love the way it turned out.

Here is a shot of the back of the quit. I backed it in flannel and had a bit of scraps left over so I ran two fun contemporary stripes to give it a little color and personality. One color backings can be so boring.

In every class or video I read/listen to, they say over and over and over.... "add a tag, add a tag, add a tag". So I added a tag. Using my new Husqvarna Viking Diamond Royal embroidery machine makes tag making so easy and fun. So this quit has a tag.

I hope my beautiful girl will treasure it forever and save it for her babies too.

B.Y.O.P

Oh my goodness, I love love love the Mini Treat Bag Die Cut. It makes the cutest bags. I used some discontinued designer series paper, to cut the bag out, and then stamped right on the bag the B.Y.O.P stamp set. Die cut a few stars too. So quick, so easy, so adorable.

The little bag also fits in our card sized envelops. PLUS as you can see below I made a card to go  inside and it is the perfect size for a gift card. I used our retired slit punch to make the 1/2 circle slits to slip the gift card in.

What a great card, gift wrap and it is mailable too.
Ya I am feeling pretty proud of myself for thinking this one up all on my own! Ha!

Would you like the die and stamp set to make a few of your own? You can click on the name of the items below and it will take you right to my page to order. Please note that these items are in the new occasions catalog and good till June 2 to order.

I used a 6"x12" designer paper for the bag and stars. The "card" insert is 5" x 3 1/2". I put the slit punch in all the way on the short card stock end till it stopped and punched the slit. A gift card fits perfect. You may want to try it out on scrap paper before using your good card stock to check size first. You know me I did it the hard way first and had to cut three more pieces of card stock till I got it right! If you don't have a slit punch, you could glue dot the gift card in place.

Sheltering Tree

I received some of the most beautiful Valentine's from my stamping friends this year. Look at these, are they not just beautiful. Judi Birt made the card at the top. I love how she combined embossing hearts in the tree, and sponged on the grass. Great use of techniques Judi.

BJ Nowacki made this beautiful card for me. So beautiful. I didn't get a picture of the inside, but it is just a beautiful as the outside.

Thank you so much ladies for thinking of me on my favorite holiday of the year.

It is so great that we set aside a day to focus on and showing others we love them. We should do that everyday - but there are "those days" and there are "those people" that are not so easy to love! No wonder God said to "love your neighbor as yourself..." Not so easy is it!

Fruity Fun

I did these up for my dear friend Theresa, who at the last minute had to have surgery and have these done for her daughters gymnastics team all on the same weekend. Talk about a stressed out mom!

I was so thankful I could help out. With all that was going on in her family I had a bit of fruit left over and made her, her own  special bouquet too. I am so excited with the way it turned out and able to share them with you to.

Here is a close up of the cantaloup rine "leaves" and fruit flowers. After cutting off the fruit, I simply used a knife to cut out a shape of leave and then carved the center line. It was really quite simple and I didn't have to try to many times to get it to come out the way I visioned it.

The team members each got a fruit bouquet trophy. It even had team color candy suckers in it too.

Therese's husband had already glued in Styrofoam into each of the trophies. All I had to is cover the foam with foil. I used cookie cutters to cut the fruit out for the star and flower shapes and a melon baller for the flower centers. The rest was was just building fruit kabobs and arranging them.

What a fun project to do. It was great putting my long ago learned flower shop experience in to making fruit bouquets. If you want to try this at home, be sure to set aside some extra time. It took me about 4 hours, but I did have 10 trophies to create.

Yes, update on Theresa. Surgery was postponed that weekend, and more tests were ran, but since then she has had the surgery and recovering well. Praise God!
